The 2-day Essential Wilderness Survival Course teaches students the basics of survival. This class is designed to develop the skills needed to survive a 72-hour emergency situation. There are two days of instruction with an optional third day to enjoy yourself around camp. Unaccustomed to using our sight, hearing, and smell, to build a mental map we easily can get lost in the woods. Plan Your Hike
Backpacking can be an extremely enjoyable experience provided you plan ahead and pack the necessities and leave the non-essentials at home. Learn how to stay hydrated, eat well, take care of your skin, especially protecting your feet on the trail. We will also give you some safety tips when backpacking, whether you are alone or in a group.

Select and Organize Your Gear
If you spend any time with thru-hikers or section hikers you learn quickly it's all about the gear. From the ultralight equipment to the high-tech creature comforts innovations, you will have to decide how to outfit your next backpacking trip. What do you really need? How do you balance weight versus comfort? We will help you start building your system of gear in this class.

Connect With Others
Your outdoor experience is about more than gear, clothing, and staying hydrated. Backpacking to destinations and meeting others will lead you to breath-taking wonders and experiences that will enrich your life. In this wrap-up, we will discuss experiencing your adventure on the Appalachian Trail

1-day or 2-days. Spend time with an expert guide as you hike in the National Forest, explore the native landscape, learn primitive fishing skills at our pond, and how to harvest food from the wild. Eat a meal over a fire you started from a single spark. Cost includes meals.

2-Day Adventures includes an evening campfire where you’ll listen to wilderness survival stories and learn a bushcraft skill. This course is great for newcomers to the survival and bushcraft community, as well as experienced individuals looking to truly test their skills in a safe setting.  More Information

Why hike the Appalachian Trail? Whether it is to heal a broken heart, the physical challenge, to be in nature or to stay off the grid you can join Trail Blazer Survival School as we do the Appalachian Trail in 2020. Each week two certified WFR guides will lead up to 12 people into the misty, cool Appalachian Mountains. Join us for one or more sections or to do the whole trail. If you do the whole Appalachian Trail with us, you will hike the equivalent of six days per week and get one down day per week to come home rest and shower. Averaging 70 miles per week you will finish in 30 weeks (Seven Months).

Trail Blazer Survival School is the ultimate summer camp destination in the Greenville, South Carolina area. Drop your kid(s) off at our office in Simpsonville (Five Forks) where they will be transported to exciting places to learn new skills, and then be returned for you to pick up.
