Our next upcoming event is the 2-day Essential Wilderness Survival Course teaches students the basics of survival. This class is chiefly designed to develop the skills needed to survive during a 72-hour emergency situation. There are two days of instruction with an optional third day to enjoy yourself around camp. Set up your tent and spend the night, fish from our lake after each class, hike our beautiful trails, and finally relax at our central camp fire in the evening. Course Content

This course is unlike any other. Learn to become a Master Survivalist at the Trail Blazer Master Survival Course. This 2 week course combines the entirety of our curriculum into a single course. Trapping Workshop

March 14th, 8am to 5pm

Trail Blazer is excited to host the upcoming trapping workshop taught by guest instructor David Schuppert. David is an expert trapper, hunter, and fisherman who has taught a variety of wilderness courses in Nova Scotia. This course will teach a variety of trap sets both modern and primitive. Participants will receive hands on instruction in the  use of steel traps, snares, and deadfalls along with various trapping gear and tools. This course will also cover how to scout an area for the best locations to set a trap and how to identify animal signs. For more information visit the Trapping Workshop page.

Plan Your Hike
Firstly, this course will begin with the planning stages of your hike. Backpacking can be an extremely enjoyable experience provided you plan ahead and pack the necessities and leave the non-essentials at home. Learn how to stay hydrated, eat well, take care of your skin, especially protecting your feet on the trail. We will also give you some safety tips when backpacking, whether you are alone or in a group.

Select, Organize, and Maintain Your Gear
Secondly, we will cover everything you need to know about hiking gear from backpacks to tent seal. If you spend any time with thru-hikers or section hikers you learn quickly that above all it's all about the gear. From the ultralight equipment to the high-tech creature comforts innovations, you will have to decide how to outfit your next backpacking trip. What do you really need moreover how do you balance weight versus comfort? We will help you start building your system of gear in this class.

Finally, your outdoor experience is about more than gear, clothing, and staying hydrated. Backpacking to destinations and meeting others will lead you to breath-taking wonders and experiences that will enrich your life. In this wrap-up, we will discuss experiencing your adventure on the Appalachian Trail. Wilderness Survival Weekend

Trail Blazer's Wilderness Survival Weekends are the ultimate form of adventure. Work with a Trail Blazer instructor to design your personal 1 or 2 day adventure. For single day adventures learn to forage wild plants, primitive fishing, tracking and set traps to harvest food from the environment. Practice multiple methods of obtaining clean water and eat a meal over a fire you both built and started from a single spark. Conclude the day building a warm dry shelter you could stay the night in. On overnight adventures you can delve into a simulated survival situation. Trail Blazer instructors will provide a minimal survive pack to use throughout the weekend. This small kit will provide your food, water, and shelter for the weekend. Over the weekend you will use each item in your pack to not just survive the weekend but actually thrive and have an exceptional time. Over the weekend learn from experience the necessary skills to survive an emergency situation in a fun and safe environment. More information.

Why hike the Appalachian Trail? Whether it is to heal a broken heart, the physical challenge, to be in nature or to stay off the grid you can join Trail Blazer Survival School as we do the Appalachian Trail in 2020. Each week two certified WFR guides will lead up to 12 people into the misty, cool Appalachian Mountains. Join us for one or more sections or to do the whole trail. If you do the whole Appalachian Trail with us, you will hike the equivalent of six days per week and get one down day per week to come home rest and shower. Averaging 50 miles per week. We will be there to assist your hike, and above all providing you support until you are ready to go it alone (up to 10 weeks).

Drop your kid(s) off at our office in Simpsonville (Five Forks) where they will be transported to exciting places to learn new skills, and then be returned for you to pick up.
