Applied Wilderness Survival “What to Bring” List

Required Items:

1 - Hat with brim

1 - Stocking cap or balaclava or shemagh

4 - Bandanas (preferably 100% cotton)

1 - Shirt, lightweight cotton long-sleeve button down

1 - Sweater, medium—weight wool

1 - Jacket, medium –weight wool

1 - Long john top (no cotton)

1 - Long john bottom (no cotton)

2 - Pair underwear

1 - Pair shorts, light nylon (quick dry)

1 - Pair hiking pants

1 - Belt, adjustable

1 - Pair work gloves, leather

1 - Pair liner socks

1 - Pair socks, wool

1 - Pair hiking shoes or hiking sandals

1 - Military rain poncho (rubber preferable)

1 - Blanket, wool, approximately 66" x 84"

1 - 5'x 5' Piece of fabric, muslin or wool (Versa Cloth)

1 - Knife, Fixed blade (no folding knives or serrated edges)

1 - 550 Parachute cord, 50'(cut into 4', 20', 26' pieces)

1 - Water treatment (we recommend Aquamira drops)

2 - Water bottles, 32 - 40oz

1 - Stainless steel or enamel cup, 18 - 24 oz (1 water bottle, 32 - 40 oz, should fit inside the cup)

1 - Personal medical kit with tweezers

1 - Soap, biodegradable, small bottle

1 - Toothbrush

1 - Emergency whistle

Optional Items:

1 - Sunscreen
1 - Insect repellent
1 - Comb or brush
1 - Dental floss
1 - Pair eyeglasses (please no contacts)
1 - Camera
1 - Notebook or journal
2 - ziplock baggies, quart (for camera and lotions)
1 - Trash bag, heavy duty
1 - Course related book
1 - Blanket, light weight wool
1 - Lip Balm
