Your time at the Trail Blazer Survival School can be a rich and fulfilling experience. Please review this important information to help you get the most out of your time here.
Arrival
If you need help arranging transportation to the school please contact us. Students may arrive the evening before a course begins.
Pets
TBSS does not allow pets on campus, with the exception of service animals, or prior approval.
Smoking
TBSS does allow smoking, but ask that you are respectful of those around you. Consider stepping away from groups when choosing to light up. Please use the same considerations when vaping or chewing tobacco.
Accommodations
TBSS campus consists of thirty acres of beautiful forest with springs and a small lake. The property also connects to the Sumter National Forrest. There is a central camp with a fire pit, potable water station, outhouse, and other camp accommodations. We encourage students to bring reusable water bottles.
Camping
Students are highly encouraged to camp and sleep outdoors when they are participating in multiple day courses. Camping is free for registered students. We have upgraded campsites with a picnic table and grill for an additional fee.
Rooms
There are many hotels and motels nearby in Union, SC for your convenience. – Days Inn, Quality Inn, Magnuson Hotel. Currently, we are building additional facilities and are planning to start offering Room accommodations in October of 2021.
Food?
At this time our programs except where noted do not include meals. There are numerous restaurants nearby in Union. We are planning to start offering meals with our courses in our new facilities this October of 2021. This will not include our Workshops unless otherwise noted. Mealtimes are an hour each for your planning purposes.
Facilities
Outdoor Classroom
Please keep in mind you will be outdoors for the majority of class time and plan to dress accordingly. Our intent is to be outside as often as possible and, though comfort is a concern, when possible we will train in the elements. Wet weather training will be conducted under our picnic shelter or temporary portable shelters.
Survival Shack
Our Survival Shack provides emergency protection from the elements if needed. It is equipped with two cots and an EMT First Aid Bag with Oxygen and rebreather.
Water and Sanitation
We have a potable drinking water station, hand washing station, and a porta-potty on site.
